The story of Hon. John Hamilton is incorrect.  He was exiled to America.

John O. Hamilton, Sr.
Comes to America

John O. Hamilton, Sr., and his brother whose name is supposed to have been William, came from northern Ireland and landed at Baltimore about 1763 or 1764. John O. Hamilton, Sr. married Elizabeth Forster, (Foster), whom he met on shipboard.John Jr., was born on November 1, 1765, in Baltimore County, Maryland. The family moved thence into Bedford County, Pennsylvania, where the son John at thirteen years of age enlisted in the Revolutionary War. The father was already an army sergeant. The Children of John and his wife Elizabeth included:

John O. Hamilton, Jr. Born Nov 1, 1765

James Edward Hamilton Born abt. 1769

Samuel Hamilton Born abt. 1774

David Hamilton Born abt. 1776

Sarah Hamilton Born abt. 1778

*In the early part of the eighteenth century there lived in Northern Ireland a family of Hamilton's of Scotch-Irish blood, descendants of Sir Claude Hamilton of Scotland. In this family there were two sons. John and William, perhaps other children. One of these boys, having plucked a rose from the King's garden, incurred the displeasure of the King, causing his banishment from England. As a result of this banishment the brothers took a ship for America. On shipboard they met a young miss named Elizabeth. John became enamored with this Elizabeth and after landing at Baltimore, these two were married. This is the same John and Elizabeth who are the ancestors of the Hamilton family whose lineage is partially traced in this volume, and this same John became a sergeant in the Revolutionary War under Captain Isaac Seeley. His war record will be found elsewhere in the list of war records in this volume. In the spring of the year 1795, four sons of Sergeant John Hamilton, John Jr., Edward, Samuel, and David left their homes in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, came down the Ohio River on a flatboat and landed on the northern bank of the river at Fort Washington, later a town called Losantville on this site, on ground where Cincinnati is now located.

They are the same John & Elizabeth who are the Ancestors of the H [Hamilton] family whose lineage is partly traced in this book. And this same John became a Sergeant in the Rev. war under Captain Seeley.

"Captain Hon. John Hamilton was born circa 1714."  But, Sgt. John O. Hamilton Sr., sometimes called John P. Hamilton was reportedly born abt. 1740.  That was possibly a phonetic error made in  transmission.
